A hoveled apartment complex gets raided: scenes of crack smoking, fatty fornication, and relentless brutality by somesuch security force. Within a sea of carrot-topped and supposed ne’er-do-wells is an/our anti-hero, one FAS-afflicted scowl you could confidently diagnose with ODD. A group of ginger freedom fighters sporting red kaffiyehs hoot and holler, ineffectual. As a short film the video is completely engrossing, a perfect storm of car crash sad, odd, and violent, filmed beautifully and expensively. Something’s happening, right? Respectable minds attempt to unpack: “Faddish political pastiche.” “Goofy political allegory.” “Repositioning tool.” “Like an episode of 24.” It’s notable that the day MIA releases a new video she has also taken over Pitchfork’s twitter account, which so far she has been using for nothing more than self-promotion. I think the music video for an internationally known artist was designed to do the same thing. People have long mused on the political bend of MIA’s work, usually arriving at the crossroads of commerce and not-really-sure. “Born Free” doesn’t stray. Also, the song isn’t that great.

In 2009 Assembly Creative was hired to help Wieden+Kennedy develop 3D concepts for a pitch to Nike. Given a tight deadline we successfully developed multiple 3D concepts for Nike's Pro Combat apparel line. Our work helped W+K define a look and 'character' for the Pro Combat brand. Soon after, David Fincher directed the national broadcast spot titled "NIKE Pro Combat: Trail of Destruction (Alter Ego).

An art piece by Caleb Larsen, ‘A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter, 2009′ is a physical sculpture that is perptually attempting to auction itself on eBay. Every ten minutes this black box pings a server on the internet via the ethernet connection to check if it is for sale on the eBay. If its auction has ended or it has sold, it automatically creates a new auction of itself. If a person buys it on eBay, the current owner is required to send it to the new owner. The new owner must then plug it into ethernet, and the cycle repeats itself.

The ebay auction now stands at $4,250.00 with 4 days and 5 hours left to the end.

I've been hella productive this afternoon in Oakland. I must praise and acknowledge  Clay Parker Jones and his work with wireframes. After checking out some of the clips on vimeo, I went over to his blog for additional resources and inspiration. Now I'm going to escort my guest to the door and get back to work

Now this is cool...

In the few minutes since I watched this video and began to share/embed and subsequently post to my blog- I had an idea. 'Wouldn't it be cool if the same code/API for this application was re-configured to do the same with music? I would use MIDI. I'm not sure how sheet music that was written for different instruments would work. I would definitely build a GUI for it. I'm getting sidetracked- and there is still work for me to do. Something about Harmonicas. And my printer is still not maintaing the color settings. Zut Alors! Back to work

friday night nonchalance

The other day I was telling Isaac about how and why I decided to title my blog '510 Collection'. And while we were standing in line at McDonald's, I began to tell him. (oh, and you're probably wondering 'what were you doing at McDonald's'? and 'isn't Isaac vegan'? well, I was going to prove to Isaac that they would accept and make change for a $100 bill. And he ordered a medium Orange Juice btw) And now, while waiting for the system to finish the transcode I started an hour ago, I am going to share the motivation, inspiration and evolution behind this blog that carries this name.

Tried to get cute with cookies, containers and javascript

But I got it anyways. With all due respect to the artist, I am merely creating an alternative resource link so that I may properly bookmark and tag the image above as a favorite on ViSualize.us . I would like to acknowledge how from this single image; fit, form and function achieve balance. And it's simple, cool and I would even speculate would cost you about $100. And I believe that the interior designer should get street cred.

This guy is cool

I must've downloaded a couple hundred megs off his server. I was real happy to find tracks from Otis Redding. It was earlier this evening and it put me in a much better mood especially since i made commitments to do stuff that doesn't really matter- but it falls into the administrative-related network cleanup that I'd rather ignore, like the dishes in the sink.

It is important to note that it i only went to the home page (where I'm linking the pic from) accidentally. I was, after all trying to setup my download manager to avoid the DNS overhead ;) and I did take a moment to read the intro. I liked it because it was poignant and modest.  This is the important part : his directory structure and naming conventions were logical, organized and clear. And that makes you cool.

Ben Meyers is a 17-year-old who spent a month putting together this video that combines improvised percussion—done on the lockers, doors and other various parts of his school—with piano and xylophone melodies. It's all played by him, recorded separately and edited together in the video. Wired's Steve Silberman tells me that young Ben is off to the Berklee College of Music in the fall. Congrats!
